In May of 2017, a port stop on my cruise Itinerary was Aruba. Known for its white-sand beaches, crystal-clear waters, and year-round sunny weather, Aruba’s western and southern coasts feature world-class beaches like Eagle Beach and Palm Beach, while the rugged eastern side features dramatic landscapes and natural attractions, including Arikok National Park and the Natural Pool.
I rented a side-by-side off-road vehicle and explored the island, mainly the east coast which is primarily desert.
Diving
Sadly, no diving occurred on this trip. However, not all hope is lost!
While sharing travel stories with a friend after arriving back home, he told me about his trip to Aruba many years prior. He told me about a snorkel trip he did where he could see a shipwreck that had a tank on its deck.
Looking into things, I found the SS Antilla shipwreck , which has the tank on its deck, Just like he said! Obviously, this is a wildly popular dive site that I clearly missed!
The ship is a 400 ft German cargo ship, sunk in 1940 during World War II. It now rests at 20-60 feet of water off the northwest coast of Aruba.
