In December of 2017, I traveled to Australia, the one and only country and continent.

This will be a bit of a longer post, since the trip was both a vacation and a research trip, scouting out potential places to live. You read that right, I was on a mission to find the optimal city for a future move to Australia.

The ex-HMAS Brisbane

The ex-HMAS Brisbane is a decommissioned Royal Australian Navy guided-missile destroyer, purposely sunk in 28 meters of water to create an artificial reef off the Sunshine Coast, Queensland in 2005.

Moreton Island: The Tangalooma Wrecks

The Tangalooma Wrecks are 15 purposely sunk ships off the western coast of Moreton Island, near Tangalooma Island Resort.

I took a day trip to the island for some diving with Bryan, a friend from the US who was living south of Brisbane in the Gold Coast. We did a drift dive, letting the oceans currents snake us through the wonderful mess of wrecks. It was a fantastic dive, and I certainly wreck-amend it if you’re in the area!

Spoiler alert, it was on this dive trip that Bryan told me about the famous Manta Ray night dive on the main island of Hawai’i.
