From late December 2022 to early January 2023, I helped my parents move from Oregon to Utah. After unpacking things, I jumped in the car for a quick day trip to Idaho to do some snowmobiling with a friend and his wife.

We set out with three snowmobiles and headed to the Caribou-Targhee National Forest. A long trail ride with bits of off-trail riding took us up to the mountain where a radio relay tower is constructed.

Radio Relay

Atop the tallest mountain in the region sits a radio relay tower.

There’s loads of gorgeous riding through the hills leading up to the base of the mountain, with plenty of opportunities to go off-trail and play in meadows and in the trees.

From the base of the mountain there is a fairly steep climb to get to the top, at least for a novice snowmobiler like me. Once we made it to the top of the summit, a 360° view greeted us with breath-taking snow covered trees as far as the eye can see. Such beauty.

Off in the distance was the Grand Tetons, visible on a clear day from the summit. The cloud coverage was at a low elevation on that particular day, so we couldn’t quite see the top of the Tetons on this trip.

If you have the opportunity to do a snowmobiling trip in eastern Idaho, or anywhere for that matter, I suggest you give it a try!
