In March, 2025 I did some snowmobiling in Idaho with a close friend.

Idaho

Warm River Cabin

A sort of repeat trip from 2021, I stayed in the Warm River cabin operated by the Forest Service.

Me and my pal, Jon.

On day two, a group of friends joined us for a mix of trail and off-trail riding in the Targhee National Forest for a 71 mile round trip day. The views were gorgeous and the riding was great.

Garns Mountain

Garns Mountain is the tallest mountain in Madison county in Eastern Idaho.

The ride tested my amateur snowmobile riding skills, and the breathtaking view at the top was a well deserved reward. Or, maybe it was the elevation that helped to take my breath away.

On the way, we made a pit-stop at Relay Ridge, another repeat ride from my 2023 solo trip to Idaho.

Just before reaching the top of the mountain, we were greeted by an expansive opening called the Elk Flats. The Elk Flats are series of wide open fields with deep, untouched snow, perfect for playing and carving on a snowmobile.

We got lucky and arrived to fresh snow all to ourselves, leaving with loads of tracks twisting and winding through the trees and fields.

As always, I highly recommend you give snowmobiling a try in eastern Idaho if you get the chance.

Utah

The snowmobiling trip was much needed after a difficult 2024 and was a good primer for a bittersweet visit to Utah on my way home.

This was my first trip back to Utah since my mother passed, and Chester was an excellent companion while I visited her resting place.

Similar to my mother, I enjoy being near the Rocky Mountains. They are a geographic anchor, providing a good subconscious sense of direction.

It’s always great to be outside and take in the views, especially when surrounded by mountains.
